Virtual infrastructure tool projecting increased traffic for the DLR network

Conscious of the rapid growth of the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) and continuous building development going on around their network, DLRL commissioned us to develop a tool to create a virtual experience of the entire DLR network and the surrounding environment. In partnership with transport engineers, SKM Colin Buchanan, we developed an interface to allow users to explore the entire DLR network in realtime, where proposed buildings could be differentiated from existing buildings. They could test journeys on existing and future lines from a first person perspective, allowing them to forecast passenger movement and growth at DLR stations in the future and during increased traffic events such as the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

This ambitious project required vast amounts of data collection and management. It also had to be communicated in a way that was clear and engaging, as this was not just a tool for DLR to use in training and development, but also to generate support for future investment.
