We advised on the look, promotion and visitor experience during a public consultation exhibition for LandProp, the property development division of Ikea. LandProp had a vision to regenerate a 26 acre site right next to the Olympic Park in Stratford, East London, creating a new neighbourhood of 1,200 houses, shops, cafes and a 350-room international hotel. Strand East is the biggest private sector project in the Olympic Park area, second only to Westfield Stratford.
Having never developed on this scale in the UK before, LandProp asked us to help them deliver their public consultation. It was a large exhibition - held in a temporary marquee at the site over the course of a week. We advised on the look and experience of the exhibition; designing the journey to tell the planning story, advertising in the press and completing large-scale leaflet distributions, as well as producing 3D images and illustrations - all in just three weeks. The consultation received overwhelmingly positive feedback, getting the endorsement of Olympic Legacy Minister Bob Neill, who simply asked the developer to "Get on with it". And they have; the first phase of Strand East is now complete and detailed planning for the rest of the site is underway.
